Easy Candied Nuts

The best way to make candied nuts is in the oven! These little gems are perfect for everything. Sprinkle them over salads, add them to a cheese board, toss them into desserts, or keep a jar on the counter for snacking. They look fancy, but they could not be simpler.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pecan halves

  • 2 cups cashew nuts

  • 2 cups almonds

  • 2 cups pistachios

  • 2 egg whites

  • 2 tbsp water

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1 cup white granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp cinnamon powder

  • 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg

  • Salt, to taste

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Add all the nuts to a large bowl and set aside.

  3. In a separate bowl, combine the egg whites, water, and vanilla extract. Whisk until the egg whites are broken down and lightly frothy.

  4. In a third bowl, mix together the brown sugar, white granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

  5. Pour the egg white mixture over the nuts and stir until evenly coated.

  6. Add the sugar mixture to the nuts and gently fold until all the nuts are well covered.

  7. Spread the nuts in a single layer across the two prepared baking sheets.

  8. Bake for 30 minutes, tossing the nuts after the first 15 minutes to ensure even caramelization.

  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, break up the nuts and transfer to an airtight container.
