Today, I made my family’s favourite, Shrimp Chilli Fry for dinner! The shrimp are flavoured with aromatic spices, lemon, butter, and garlic. I am going to share with you my tips and tricks to make this delicious Shrimp Chilli Fry because it is going to become one of your go-to recipes!
Ingredients
To Marinade the Shrimp
1 lb (450 grams) Shrimps/Prawns
½ tsp Cumin Powder
1 tbsp Kashmir Chilli Powder
½ tsp Tumeric Powder
¼ tsp Pepper Powder
1 tsp Salt
1 tbsp Lemon Juice
To Prepare the Chilli Fry
2 tbsp Oil
1-2 Green Chillies, finely diced
2 Onions, medium, finely sliced
1-2 Tomatoes, deseed and sliced
¼ tsp Salt
¼ tsp Pepper
1 cup Mixed Bell Peppers, cubed
1 tbsp Butter
6-8 Garlic Cloves, finely minced
2 tbsp Coriander/Cilantro, finely chopped
Method
Shell, devein, wash, and pat dry the shrimp/prawns. To make the shrimps/prawns look even bigger than they are when they cook, I give them a slight slit on the back.
Now season the shrimps/prawns with cumin powder, Kashmir chilli powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder, salt, and lemon juice. Give it all a good mix and leave it aside to marinate for about 15 minutes.
In a large heated heavy bottom skillet on medium heat, add the oil and once the oil has heated, add the finely diced green chillies and sauté them just a little.
Now toss in the finely sliced onions and continue sautéing till the onions begin to turn translucent.
Next, add the finely sliced tomatoes and season with salt and pepper. Continue sautéing till the tomatoes begin to soften.
For some more flavour and colour, add cubed bell peppers of your choice and after a quick stir, move it all to the side of the skillet to create a well in the centre.
Now toss the butter in the centre of the pan, and once the butter has melted, add the finely minced garlic and sauté till the garlic absorbs the flavour of the butter.
Into that, add the marinated shrimp/prawns and give it a mix so that the shrimp/prawns absorb the garlic butter flavour.
Gradually start mixing everything and continue mixing and cooking it for about 4-5 minutes by which time the shrimp should be just cooked.
Now sprinkle on some finely chopped coriander/cilantro and give a quick mix before taking it off the heat.
Serve and enjoy! It’s best enjoyed on the same day it’s prepared.
