Easy Crispy Fried Mackerel

Today for dinner I am preparing Crispy Fried Mackerel! When I was growing up, my mom loved making Goan Mackerel Fry and this recipe brings back so many memories. I hope you enjoy how I make Mackerel, cause this one is a winner!



Ingredients


For the Fish

  • 4 Mackerels 

  • ½ tsp Salt

  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder 

  • 2 ½ tsp Kashmiri Chili Powder 

  • ½ tsp Cumin Powder 

  • ½ tsp Coriander Powder 

  • ¼ tsp Tumeric Powder

  • 1 tsp Ginger Paste

  • 2 tsp Garlic Paste

  • 3 tsp Lemon Juice


For the Coating

  • ½ cup Semolina, fine

  • ½ cup Cornstarch

  • ¼ tsp Salt 

  • ½ tsp Kashmiri Chili Powder


Method


  1. Clean and wash the fish. Make a few cuts on both sides of the fish.  

  2. Sprinkle some salt and turmeric powder on the fish and keep it aside.

  3. Mix the Kashmiri chili powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, ginger and garlic pastes, and lemon juice in a bowl till well combined.

  4. Coat the fish on both sides with this spice mix and make sure that it goes inside the slits as well.  

  5. Mix the semolina, cornstarch, salt, and Kashmiri chili powder in a wide bowl for the coating.  

  6. Create a workstation by placing the fish first beside the coating. Heat a skillet on medium heat and add some oil to it.

  7. Now take one fish at a time and place it in the dish with the coating making sure that the fish has got well coated on both sides.

  8. Place the fish in the hot oil and fry it till it turns golden and crispy on both sides.

  9. Remove from the pan and place the fried fish on a platter.

  10. Enjoy the fish with steaming hot rice, curry, and a salad.
