Updated: May 9

If you are looking for a quick and easy dinner that is ready in just 20 minutes, you are going to love this Honey Garlic Chicken! My family loves this Honey Garlic Chicken, which makes it one of my go-to recipes.

Ingredients

For the Chicken

  • 6 Chicken Thighs (skinless, boneless)

  • Salt, to taste

  • Pepper, to taste

  • 1/3 cup Cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp Butter

  • 1tbsp Vegetable Oil

For the Sauce

  • 4 Garlic Cloves, minced

  • 1/3 cup (80ml) Honey

  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Chicken Stock

  • 2 tbsp Rice Wine Vinegar

  • 1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce

  • 1 tbsp Chili Garlic Sauce

For Plating

  • 1 Green Onion/Scallions, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp Sesame Seeds

  • Boiled Rice

  • 1 cup Broccoli, steamed

Method

  1. Wash and pat dry the chicken thighs. Sprinkle each side with salt and freshly cracked black pepper.

  2. Coat both sides of the chicken in cornstarch and shake off the excess.

  3. To a heated skillet on medium heat add the butter one tablespoon at a time if you are using a medium size skillet and frying the chicken in two batches. Pour in half a tablespoon of oil to prevent the butter from burning.

  4. Place chicken in the skillet and cook until golden on one side, then turn the chicken over and cook it on the other side till golden and just shy of being cooked. Remove the chicken to a plate and fry the second batch after adding another tablespoon of butter and half a tablespoon of oil to the pan. Once the second batch of chicken thighs has turned golden on both sides and is almost cooked, add them to the plate with the other chicken thighs.

  5. Add the garlic to the same skillet and allow it to cook until it loses its raw flavour. Add the honey, chicken stock, rice wine vinegar, light soya sauce, and chili garlic sauce to the pan.  Give them all a quick stir and till the sauce comes to a simmer.

  6. Place the chicken back into the pan and pour a little sauce over each piece with a spoon.

  7. Turn the heat down slightly, let the chicken cook completely, and the sauce thicken.

  8. Garnish with finely chopped green onions or scallions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

  9. Serve the Honey Garlic Chicken on a bed of hot white rice and a side of steamed broccoli. Spoon more sauce on the chicken and garnish with the finely chopped green onion and sesame seeds.
